Over the past 12-months, the world of recruitment has swung across ALL industries. On one extreme, hiring freezes abound. And yet on the other, recruitment in certain industries has been cranked up to meet the hyper-inflated and unexpected demands of the current world.
How do you hire a lot of people, and quickly???
Here are 7 tips for recruiters working in serious, and slightly unexpected, overtime- how to hire a lot of staff, quickly.
1. HIRE FOR ATTITUDE, TRAIN FOR SKILL
Ever heard of the saying ‘a needle in the haystack’... this is what it's like to find the perfect candidate during high-volume hiring. Instead of finding the perfect resume, take time to look for candidates with a great attitude, enthusiasm and energy. Willingness to learn often falls out of a good attitude. REMEMBER… you can teach skills, but you can’t teach attitude!
2. FIRE UP ALL YOUR CHANNELS
Job seekers look online, so make sure your online presence is ON POINT. Use social media as both an opportunity to show off your company culture but also as a new channel to attract candidates. Use hashtags such as #JobRole when sharing information about positions to maximise their proliferation across your network and beyond. LinkedIn is an obvious choice, but Facebook and Twitter can also help you source new talent, with their strong cultures of sharing posts amongst networks.
3. BE REALISTIC ABOUT THE JOB AND WRITE CLEAR DESCRIPTIONS
How often do you read through a job description and wonder what the role is actually going to involve?... There’s no harm at all being straightforward about the expectations of a role. It’s still very possible to be clear and to the point, but still show a bit of personality.
4. DEDICATE THE CORRECT RESOURCES
It’s important to make sure you’re properly supported in this time of increased demand. If your hiring team has been hit with a sudden burst of demand, it’s likely they will struggle to keep up. Hiring some freelance hiring consultants to help would be very beneficial.
5. GET THE RIGHT TECHNICAL HELP
People rarely talk about the time spent on hiring. At the best of times, looking through millions of CV’s, LinkedIn Profiles, Cover Letters and much more can be a timely process, and if time is short, you should consider upgrading your technical stack to help you cope with this high demand. There’s a wealth of technical solutions which can help you with sourcing, screening, and tracking, which will shave valuable time off the whole process.
6. DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE A SPECIALIST RECRUITMENT AGENCY
Recruitment Agencies are specialists in attracting the top talent quickly and when hiring in bulk, time is sensitive. Without the help of an agency, this process will take your team upwards of 10 weeks. In many cases, this number can increase indefinitely. Recruitment agencies will reduce the hiring time immensely, ensuring that you hire staff more quickly, efficiently and effectively.
You know what it takes to hire; endless CV’s, a non-stop ringing phone and a string of emails from applicants. Let’s not forget that your job still needs to be done! When you are recruiting in volume, everything goes into hyper speed. With that said, your management will spend an average of 10 full days doing all recruitment-related tasks.
Recruitment agencies will help manage this whole process for you, saving you lots of time and resources. At Cactus Recruit, as a first step, we get to understand our client's needs. We then go through the job role & brief, then we advertise the role and search for candidates across 3 job boards and LinkedIn Recruiter. After this, we headhunt suitable candidates that are not on the market. We then build a talent pipeline, send shortlisted CV's and manage the interview process, negotiate offers and deal with counter offers and lastly we support our clients throughout the onboarding process.
